Welcome to Our Dental Practice in Albuquerque
Here at Peak Family Dentistry in Albuquerque, our focus is total oral healthcare. In order for potential clients to understand how much we take this seriously, we would like to give you a clear picture of the procedure that accompanies an average first visit to a dentist.
Your first visit will consist of a series of diagnostic tests. It is important to understand that your mouth and body are all connected as one, therefore your exam will start with Dr. Adams reviewing your medical history. At this time, she will also address any dental concerns or questions you may have before she begins the exam. A clinical exam will start with a TMJ assessment, followed by a head and neck exam. A TMJ assessment is necessary because it helps determine if there are any problems stemming from the mandibular area as opposed to problems with your teeth.
Dr. Adams will evaluate the soft tissue inside of the mouth and perform an oral cancer screening. Dr. Adams believes the gums and jaw bone, which hold the teeth in place, are the foundation to good oral health. A full periodontal evaluation–evaluation of the gums and jaw bone–will determine your hygiene class and recall frequency. Lastly, Dr. Adams will evaluate your bite, check for cavities, cracked teeth and integrity of existing restorations.
A series of diagnostic dental x-rays will be taken during your first visit. X-rays are an essential tool used to diagnose oral disease and aids in treatment planning. Without the proper dental x-rays a comprehensive exam is not possible. If you would like to share any current x-rays from your previous dental office, please have them sent to our office prior to your first visit. After the exam, Dr. Adams will review any area of concern and, if needed, discuss treatment options for your oral healthcare needs.
Like with any first visit, you can expect some paperwork to be part of the process. We request that you arrive 15 minutes earlier than your scheduled appointment to fill-out the necessary paperwork. A printable format can be found here, if you would like to fill-out the forms prior to your appointment. Doing so can help simplify the process and save you precious time for your visit.
The financial policy of Peak Family Dentistry is that the payment is due at the time service is rendered. To assist our patients, our office welcomes most major dental insurance plans and will file claims on your behalf. Although your insurance plan is a private contract made between your employer and insurance company, our office will do all we can to maximize your benefits. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. In addition, we accept CareCredit payment options and financing.
Please feel free to call the office and speak with us personally if you have any questions concerning your first visit. We are always eager to help our clients feel relaxed before, during, and after any dentist appointment. We look forward to meeting you and serving your oral health needs!
